Katie Anderson

Katie is a DVM/PhD student in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota. She was raised in the Twin Cities among many four-legged siblings who sparked her interest in veterinary medicine. Katie received her B.S. degree in Animal Science from the University of Wisconsin: River Falls and began veterinary school at the University of Minnesota in 2011. Although she has held a life-long interest in becoming a veterinarian, Katie became interested in research through a study abroad internship as an undergrad.

Katie joined the Modiano Lab in 2013 as a part of the Howard Hughes Medical Research Fellows Program, and she plans to complete a PhD in cancer cell biology. She is interested in immunology and comparative oncology. Her current project is examining the use of a CD47 blockade to enhance adaptive anti-tumor immune responses. Katie is funded through an individual F30 combined-degree fellowship from the NCI.

Outside of the lab, Katie enjoys spending time with her Black Lab/Border Collie mix, Jax, and her cat, Rumor.
